This 1990 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 shows just over 25,000 miles and is one of the 3,049 ZR-1 package ordered out of the 23,646 total Corvettes produced that year. The car is finished in black over black leather and powered by the Lotus-designed and Mercury Marine-assembled 5.7-liter LT-5 V8 paired with a six-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes Selective Ride and Handling, power-adjustable seats, and dual removable roof panels. Acquired by the current owner in September 2020, this first-year C4 ZR-1 is offered with both roof panels, a window sticker, manufacturer’s literature, a clean Carfax report, and clean Minnesota title.Â
This ZR-1 was sold new at Don Mealey Chevrolet in Orlando, Florida October 31,1990. A blue-tinted glass roof panel was optioned for an extra $915.
The car is finished in Black and features wider rear bodywork and a unique convex rear fascia, which sets it apart from the base 1990 Corvette. Additional equipment includes pop-up headlights, fog lamps, a black painted roof panel, and dual Borla exhaust outlets.Â
This ZR-1 was enjoyed by the original owner from 1990 until 2013. He drove 20,145 miles during his time with the car.
During his ownership, the factory wheels were replaced with those from a 1995 ZR-1. Morrison exhaust headers, a full Borla exhaust system, and an AO Engineering Air Induction system were also installed by the original owner.
The staggered-width 17″ wheels currently wear new Nitto NT555G2 tires that measure 275/40 up front and 315/35 out back. The suspension tuning, steering, and braking were designed in consultation with Lotus during their time as a subsidiary of General Motors. The three-mode adjustable suspension system is controlled by a knob on the center console.Â
The cabin is upholstered in black leather with matching plastics and carpets. Amenities include power-adjustable bucket seats with Corvette embroidery in the headrests, cruise control, and a Pioneer Head unit with Bluetooth sits in place of the factory Delco-Bose Gold Series system.
This example stayed in Florida, purchased locally in March of 2013 by the second owner. He drove the car 4,812 miles during his 7 year ownership.
During that time, all records were kept to show the services performed. In 2016, 4.10 gears were installed in the rear differential and the interior was treated to a Pioneer stereo head unit, Cadence amplifier with integrated subwoofer, and high-quality speakers.Â
New door and hatch seals, alternator, vacuum hoses, fuel injectors, coils, and other documented work was also done during his ownership.
In September of 2020 the car was sold for the third time with 24,977 miles on the odometer. The current owner has enjoyed giving this special vehicle more of the care and attention it deserves.
New Nitto NT555G2 tires were installed on the 1995 ZR-1 wheels to replace dated rubber. A stock C4 windshield was sourced to replace the specially coated ZR-1 glass, which had delaminated and had become difficult to see through. A replacement blue-tinted glass top was also purchased. The ECM was sent to Haibeck Automotive Technology in Chicago, IL for testing and a new chip was programmed by Marc to optimize the engine output with current modifications.
An airbag steering wheel frames a digital speedometer and an analog tachometer along with gauges for oil pressure, oil temperature, coolant temperature, and voltage. The digital odometer currently indicates just over 25,000 miles.Â
Early in it's life, an AO Engineering Forced Air system was installed, which brings air into a larger airbox via the front license plate location.
The bumper covers, hood, and side mirrors were refinished in the factory color, due to paint oxidation, and then buffed before being coated with a liquid wax treatment.
The aluminum block 5.7-liter LT5 V8 features four overhead cams and four valves per cylinder, and was designed in partnership with Lotus with manufacturing completed by Mercury Marine. Factory power output was quoted at 375 horsepower when new, and an oil and filter change was performed in September 2020.Â
A new battery was installed in December 2020. The starter was also replaced along with new wiper blades at this time.
The oil temperature sender was replaced and a new AC compressor was fitted in January 2021. The AC system was checked for leaks, and fully charged with R134a.
Exhaust is handled by Morrison long-tube headers and a full cat-less Borla system.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. Additional underbody photos are included in the gallery below.Â
The September 2020 Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists its Florida history. The full report can be viewed in the gallery below.Â
The window sticker copy lists factory colors and equipment as well as an original MSRP of $60,470. Service manuals and manufacturer’s literature are also included in the sale. Service records have been maintained dating back to 2013.
A number of flaws, which are pictured where possible, include:
Small tear in driver's lower outside seat bolster, wear spot in carpet in driver's footwell, small scratch in clearcoat next to hood emblem, the power antenna extends half-way and only retracts with help, dash does not lay completely flat up close to front edge next to the windshield on drivers side.
Included in the sale is two removable tops, the original radio head unit, ZR-1 welcome box, receipts dating back to 2013, GM Service Manual, and extra keys.
The original headers and full exhaust is available to go with the car at the buyer's shipping expense.

Cold start video inside car. The garage is heated to 60 degrees. When I opened the door to shoot the video the outdoor temperature was 27 degrees Fahrenheit.
Same video, but outside the vehicle.
